Studio January 2026 - Clay and fabric - cracking sculptures

Freshly made sculpture, still wet

A mystical sculpture made from a man’s shirt and paper clay. The base of the sculpture is a re-purposed flower vase that holds the weight. Fabric and clay don’t usually go well together and there is a certain tension that develops between them, the clay starts to crack ad the fabric starts to look dirty. I really like that.

My working title for this sculpture was ‘wind’ and I haven’t found a better one so far. Especially now that the beautiful cracks are appearing there is a porousness and fragility, paired with a powerful presence that makes me think of this element.

Cracking in the most beautiful way

This head came to life with urgency and confidence, it almost felt like a conception of sorts. A magical process that I will continue into a series of sculptures and maybe build an elemental installation with them.
