ABOUT ME

What excites me:
Truth, honesty, wind in trees, bodies at ease, transformation, art, liberation, fabric, freedom, beauty, co-creation, ideas, friendship, the bigger picture.

What annoys me:
Superficiality, big egos, hidden agendas, cycling in rain, closed minds, extinction, rushed mornings, overpowering aftershave.

Katrin Mountain is a sculptor and flag maker with a background in tailoring and fashion. Best known for her large scale flag and banner installations in the public realm, she also uses fabric to create sculptures, wall hangings and cut-paintings.

“In my art I work mainly with fabric, drawing and deconstruction. I like to explore subversion, resistance and transcendence as human experiences. My deepest aim is to find forms that embody the complexity and vulnerability of the human experience.
In that respect, textiles are very intimate and relatable materials as our human bodies are in touch with them most of the time.”

Katrin graduated with a MFA Fine Art from Goldsmiths College, London and from Weißensee Art School, Berlin. She was a guest student at the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris and the Städelschule Frankfurt while working in the studios of Karin Sander and Wiebke Siem in Berlin and later Laura Ford and Andrew Sabin in London.

Her work has been shown internationally, including the Istanbul Biennale, Meijer Gardens in Michigan US, the German National Bank, the Whitstable Biennale and more. She has received the Deutsche Bank Art Award, Arts Council England Funding and was commissioned by Jersey Heritage, Metal Southend and others.

She is a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors and a Cusanuswerk alumni.

She lives with her family on the South Coast of England.
