POWER OBJECTS

This sculpture making workshop is inspired by African animistic power sculptures

Five ancient ceremonial wooden statues with carved faces, wrapped in rope, and attached to pointed wooden stakes, displayed against a black background.
A cluttered table with melted chocolate, colorful straws, yarn, scissors, and partially decorated clay or Play-Doh sculptures, with some children’s hands in the frame.
Collection of art supplies including a purple vase, crumpled brown paper, a ball of white string, and multiple clay sculptures with metallic and colored elements on a table against a plain white background.

We use clay, strings and other materials to make our own power objects. Each sculpture contains a little jar or vessel with a message to self or intention and something personal like a hair or a small object of value.

The intention of empowerment then gets worked into an intuitive clay sculpture which is bound and tied in with strings and ropes. The resulting clay sculptures take very primal and powerful shapes.

Whenever one looks at the object later on, the intention springs to mind and re-activates itself. No experience in sculpture making needed.
